Who Is This For?
StoreHub merchants (retail or F&B) who need to set up, configure, or troubleshoot a barcode scanner on their POS register.
Overview
This article covers how to set up and configure all StoreHub-supported barcode scanners: Sunmi Scanner, Socket Mobile S700, and VITA Scanner.
You will learn how to connect the scanner, change scanning modes, reset to factory settings, and troubleshoot common issues. For USB port locations on your register, see this article.
Before You Begin
Your POS register is set up and powered on.
You have the barcode scanner that came with your StoreHub setup, or a compatible scanner.
For Socket Mobile S700 (Bluetooth): an iPad with Bluetooth turned on.
For VITA Scanner: check the number of digits on your product barcodes (12 digits = UPC-A, 13 digits = EAN-13) to know which mode you need.
Step-by-Step Guide
Set Up a Sunmi Scanner
The Sunmi Scanner connects via USB and is ready to use as soon as you plug it in. If you need to reset it or change to supermarket mode, scan the barcode images below.
1. Plug the Sunmi Scanner into any available USB port on your Android register.
2. The scanner is now ready to use. Open the StoreHub POS app and scan a product barcode to test.
Restore Factory Defaults (Sunmi Scanner)
If you need to reset the scanner to its original settings:
1. Scan the barcode below to enter setup mode.
2. Scan the barcode below to restore all factory defaults.
3. Scan the barcode below to exit setup mode.
Activate Supermarket Mode (Sunmi Scanner)
Supermarket mode (also called sense mode) lets the scanner detect barcodes automatically without pressing the trigger button.
1. Scan the barcode below to enter setup mode.
2. Scan the barcode below to activate supermarket (sense) mode.
3. Scan the barcode below to exit setup mode.
Set Up a Socket Mobile S700 (Bluetooth)
The Socket Mobile S700 connects to your iPad via Bluetooth.
Turn On the Scanner
1. Press the power button to turn on the device.
2. Wait for the Bluetooth light (blue) to start blinking.
Note:
Do not pair the scanner with the iPad yet at this point. Wait until the light is blinking first.
Pair the Scanner with Your iPad
1. On your iPad, go to 'Settings', then tap 'Bluetooth'. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
2. Make sure the scanner's Bluetooth light is still blinking.
3. Under the list of available devices, look for 'Socket S700' and tap on it. It should show 'Connected'.
4. Open the StoreHub POS app and scan a product barcode to test.
Reset the Scanner
If you need to reset the Socket Mobile S700:
Note:
Only reset the scanner when it is not connected to an iPad or PC.
1. Scan the barcode below to reset the scanner.
2. The scanner will play a sound and turn off.
3. Press the power button to turn the scanner back on. The reset is now complete.
Switch Scanning Modes
The scanner needs to be in MFi-SPP mode to work properly on iOS.
Note:
You do not need to turn off or reset the device to switch modes. Unpair (forget) the scanner from your iPad or PC first, scan the matching barcode to change modes, then pair the device again.
Set Up a VITA Scanner
The VITA Scanner connects via USB. By default, it is set to UPC-A mode (12-digit barcodes, common in the USA and Canada). If your products use EAN-13 barcodes (13 digits, common in Asia and Europe), you need to switch to EAN-13 mode.
Which Mode Do You Need?
Mode | Barcode digits | Common in |
UPC-A | 12 digits | USA, Canada |
EAN-13 | 13 digits | Asia, Europe, globally |
Note:
If your scanner scans a barcode but the POS is missing the first digit, you are likely in the wrong mode.
1. Plug the VITA Scanner into a USB port on your POS register.
2. Count the digits on your product barcode. If you have 13 digits, follow the steps below to change to EAN-13 mode.
Change from UPC-A to EAN-13 Mode
1. Point the VITA Scanner at the barcode image below and long press the trigger until the light on the scanner goes off.
2. Scan the barcode below to change the setting to EAN-13. Long press until the light goes off.
3. Scan the barcode below to exit setup mode.
Note:
You only need to do this once. The scanner will remember this setting even after you turn it off.
Enable Supermarket Mode (VITA Scanner)
Supermarket mode lets the scanner detect barcodes automatically without pressing the trigger.
1. Scan the barcode below to enter setup mode.
2. Scan the barcode below to activate supermarket mode.
3. Scan the barcode below to exit setup mode.
Disable Supermarket Mode (VITA Scanner)
1. Scan the barcode below to enter setup mode.
2. Scan the barcode below to disable supermarket mode.
3. Scan the barcode below to exit setup mode.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Solution |
Scanner does not beep when scanning the screen | Your screen might be too dim. Increase screen brightness to 100% or zoom in on the barcode image. |
Scanner beeps but product is not found on POS | Check that the barcode number in your BackOffice matches the physical barcode sticker exactly. Make sure there are no extra spaces. |
Scanner light is not on (VITA or Sunmi) | Unplug the USB cable and plug it firmly into a different USB port on the register. |
Socket Mobile S700 not appearing in iPad Bluetooth | Make sure the scanner is turned on and the Bluetooth light is blinking. If it was previously paired with another device, reset the scanner first (see Reset section above), then try pairing again. |
Scanner scanning but missing the first digit | You are likely in UPC-A mode with a 13-digit barcode. Switch to EAN-13 mode (see VITA Scanner section). |
Scanner not responding after mode change | Unplug and replug the scanner (USB), or turn it off and on again (Bluetooth). If it still does not work, reset to factory defaults and reconfigure. |
FAQs
1. Do I need to change the scanner mode for every new product?
No. Once you scan the setup barcodes to change mode (e.g. from UPC-A to EAN-13), the scanner stays in that mode for all future products.
2. Can I use both UPC-A and EAN-13 at the same time?
Usually yes. Enabling EAN-13 often allows the scanner to read both 13-digit and 12-digit barcodes, but this depends on the scanner's firmware. Test both to be sure.
3. What is supermarket mode?
Supermarket mode (also called sense mode) lets the scanner detect and read barcodes automatically without pressing the trigger button. This is useful for high-volume scanning at checkout.
4. Which scanner works with iPad?
The Socket Mobile S700 connects to iPad via Bluetooth. The Sunmi Scanner and VITA Scanner use USB and connect to Android registers.
5. Where do I find the USB ports on my register?
See this article for port locations on each register model.
