How to Use the Bixolon Label Artist Mobile App to Print Barcodes

StoreHub merchants using the Bixolon Label Artist mobile app on an iPad or Android device to quickly create and print barcode labels.

Overview

This guide shows you how to download the Bixolon Label Artist mobile app, connect it to your Bixolon label printer, and create and print simple barcode labels directly from your mobile device.


Before You Begin

  • Bixolon SLP-DX220 label printer and power adapter

  • Label roll for your Bixolon printer

  • LAN cable (to connect printer to router)

  • iPad or Android mobile device

  • StoreHub router or your own router with a stable Wi-Fi connection

  • Access to your StoreHub BackOffice (if you need to reference product barcodes)


Step-by-Step Guide

Download the Bixolon Label Artist Mobile App

1. On your iPad register, open the 'App Store'.

2. Search for 'Bixolon Label Artist'.

3. Download and install the 'Bixolon Label Artist' app.

Connect Your iPad to the Bixolon Printer

The Bixolon printer needs to be connected to your router with a LAN cable, and your mobile device needs to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

1. Connect your Bixolon printer to your router using a LAN cable.

2. On your iPad device, open your main 'Settings' app.

3. Tap 'Wi-Fi' and ensure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your router (e.g., 'StoreHub_MY' or your own network).

4. Launch the 'Label Artist App' on your iPad.

5. Tap 'Settings' in the bottom right corner of the app.

6. Under 'Printer Settings', tap 'Please check printer connection' to start searching for your Bixolon printer.

7. Once the search is complete, the app will display "Connecting to printer" along with the printer's IP address. A pop-up will ask to "Enable Keep-alive connection mode." Tap 'Allow' to complete the connection.

8. Once connected, you’ll receive a notification confirming that your mobile device is linked to the Bixolon printer.

Create Your Barcode Labels

The mobile app offers two ways to create labels: 'Basic Labels' for custom designs or 'Theme Label' for templates.

1. From the app's home page, choose your label type:

a. Basic Labels: Tap this to start designing a custom barcode label from scratch.

  • Ensure you select the '1-D barcode' type for standard product barcodes.

b. Theme Label: Tap this to choose a pre-set template (e.g., 'Price Tag') and customize it.

  • Select your preferred available template option.

2. To edit your label:

a. Tap the orange circular '+' button at the bottom right of the screen.

b. Select 'Text' to add product details like the name or price. You can adjust the font style, size, and alignment in the 'Text Settings'.

c. Tap 'Barcode' to add the product’s barcode number. Enter the barcode number in the 'Step Count' column under '1-D Barcode'.

Print Your Barcode

1. To print your barcode immediately, tap the 'Printer' icon on the bottom left of the screen.

2. To adjust print options (like printing multiple copies), tap the 'Settings' icon on the right side of the print screen.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Mobile app cannot find the printer.

  1. Check LAN cable: Ensure the Bixolon printer is connected to your router with a LAN cable.

  2. Check Wi-Fi connection: Make sure your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the router that the printer is plugged into.

  3. Restart devices: Try restarting your Bixolon printer, your router, and your mobile device.

  4. Printer power: Ensure the printer is powered on and its LED lights indicate it's ready (e.g., solid green).

Barcodes are not scanning correctly.

  1. Check print quality: Ensure the labels are printing clearly without smudges or faded areas.

  2. Verify barcode data: Double-check that the barcode numbers you entered in the app are correct and match your product barcodes.

Bulk editing or importing product lists is not possible.

The Bixolon Label Artist mobile app does not support bulk editing or importing product lists directly. You will need to manually enter barcode information for each label. For bulk operations, please use the Bixolon LabelArtist II desktop software on a Windows computer.

No, the Bixolon Label Artist mobile app does not support importing product lists. You will need to manually enter the product name and barcode for each label you create.

Yes, the Bixolon Label Artist app is available for download on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

3. Do I need an internet connection to print labels with the mobile app?

You need a local network connection (Wi-Fi) to connect your mobile device to the printer via your router. An active internet connection is not strictly required for printing once the app and printer are connected on the local network, but it is needed for initial app download and updates.

4. Can I save label templates in the mobile app?

Yes, the app allows you to save your custom label designs as templates for future use, so you don't have to recreate them every time.
