How to Set Up Your StoreHub Printer

StoreHub merchants using the POS system in F&B or retail environments who need to connect a receipt or kitchen printer to their POS device (Android, iPad, or StoreHub Prime D2).

Overview

This guide shows you how to connect different types of printers (LAN, USB, and Bluetooth) to your StoreHub POS device. It also includes important information on recommended printers and how to maintain them.


Before You Begin

  • StoreHub POS device powered on and logged in.

  • Compatible printer and necessary cables (power, LAN, USB, or cash drawer cable).

  • Stable internet connection (for LAN/WiFi connections).

  • Admin access to your StoreHub POS app.

  • A compatible printer model (see 'Recommended Printers' section below).


Step-by-Step Guide

Recommended Printers

To avoid issues, always use a printer that StoreHub recommends. Using an unsupported printer may cause problems like receipts not printing or printing incorrectly.

Connect a LAN Printer (Wired Network Connection)

LAN printers connect to your network router using a cable, providing a stable connection for your POS device.

1. Connect the power cable to your printer and plug it into a power outlet.

2. Connect one end of a LAN cable to the 'LAN' port on your printer.

3. Connect the other end of the LAN cable to an available 'LAN' port on your StoreHub router.

4. Ensure your StoreHub POS device (Android, iPad, or StoreHub Prime D2) is connected to the same StoreHub Wi-Fi network as the printer.

  • Go to your POS device's 'Settings'.

  • Tap 'Wi-Fi'.

  • Select one of the 'StoreHub Wi-Fi' networks.

Connect a USB Printer

USB printers connect directly to your POS device using a USB cable. This method is suitable for StoreHub Prime (D2) and Android POS devices.

1. Find the USB B cable that came with your printer.

2. Locate the USB B port on your printer.

3. Locate an available USB A port on your StoreHub POS device.

  • For StoreHub Prime (D2): The USB ports are usually on the side or back.

Connect a Bluetooth Printer (iPad Recommended)

Bluetooth printers connect wirelessly to your iPad POS device. This is generally recommended for iPads for better stability compared to Android devices.

1. Attach the power cable to your printer and plug it into a power outlet.

2. If you are using a cash drawer, connect the RJ-11 cable (looks like a phone cable) from the cash drawer to the 'DK' (Drawer Kick) port on the printer.

3. On your iPad, go to 'Settings'.

4. Tap 'Bluetooth'.

5. Toggle the 'Bluetooth' switch to 'ON' (it should turn green).

6. Wait for your iPad to discover your Bluetooth printer in the 'My Devices' list, then tap its name.

7. On your Bluetooth printer, hold down the 'Pair' button (usually on the back) until the light on the printer turns blue. This indicates it's paired.

8. Now that the printer is paired with your iPad, open the StoreHub POS app and sign in with your 4-digit PIN.

Note:

  • Your iPad can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time. Therefore, if you cannot discover the printer on your iPad, it could be due to one of these reasons:

    • Your iPad has already been connected to a Bluetooth scanner.

    • The Bluetooth printer has previously been connected to a different device. Please un-pair the printer with the previous device.

Connect POS to printer

1. On your POS register, tap the 'Menu' icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner of the screen.

2. Tap 'Settings'.

4. Tap 'Search Printers'.

5. Wait a few seconds for your printer to appear in the list, then tap its name.

6. Toggle 'Receipt Printing' to 'ON'. If you have set up virtual kitchen or bar printers in your BackOffice, toggle those 'ON' as well.

7. Tap 'Print Test Receipt'. A test receipt should print from your printer.

Note:

  • If you want receipts to print automatically after every order, toggle 'Always Print Receipt' to 'ON' on the main 'Printer' page.

Printer Maintenance: Tips & Best Practices

To keep your printer working well and avoid issues, follow these best practices:

1. Place your printer in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area.

2. Avoid placing your printer near heat sources (like ovens) or in direct sunlight.

3. Keep your printer away from humid or moist areas.

4. Keep your printer powered on at all times and avoid frequent restarts.

5. Regularly check that your LAN cable (if used) connecting your POS device to your printer is working correctly.

6. Ensure all cables are safely hidden or protected to prevent physical damage, especially in busy kitchen environments.

7. Regularly verify that your printers and POS devices are connected to the same network.

8. Periodically check network settings and update IP settings if needed.


Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

My printer is not printing after setup.

  1. Check if the printer is powered on and has paper.

  2. Ensure all cables (power, LAN/USB) are securely connected.

  3. Verify that your POS device is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network (for LAN/Bluetooth printers).

  4. In the StoreHub POS app, go to 'Settings' > 'Printer' and ensure 'Receipt Printing' (and any other relevant printing tasks) is toggled 'ON' for your selected printer.

  5. Tap 'Print Test Receipt'.

'Printer' is beeping or has a 'Red Light' blinking.

This usually means the 'Lid' is not closed properly or you have a 'Paper Jam'. Open the lid, remove any stuck paper, and ensure the 'Paper Roll' is facing the right way before clicking the lid shut firmly.

'Kitchen' orders are not printing, but 'Receipts' are.

This is usually a 'Routing' issue. Ensure you have assigned your products to a 'Kitchen Station' in the 'BackOffice'. Also, check that the 'Kitchen Printing' toggle is 'On' in your POS 'Printer Settings'.

1. What if my printer is not listed when I tap 'Search Printers'?

Yes, you can connect multiple printers (e.g., a receipt printer and a kitchen printer) to your POS device. You will need to set up each printer individually in the StoreHub POS app and assign them to their specific printing tasks (e.g., 'Receipt', 'Kitchen', 'Bar').

4. What size 'Thermal Paper' do I need?

Most StoreHub printers (like the 'XPrinter' or 'Star' models) use '80mm x 80mm' thermal paper rolls. Smaller mobile printers or 'D3 mini' devices use '58mm' rolls.

5. Does the printer use 'Ink'?

No. StoreHub printers use 'Thermal Technology'.() If your receipts are 'Faded' or 'Blurry', it usually means the 'Thermal Head' is dirty and needs to be cleaned with a cotton bud and alcohol.
