What Works on Your POS When the Internet Is Down

Who is this for?

StoreHub merchants who want to know what their POS can still do when the internet is down, and what to do until the connection returns.

Overview

This article explains which POS tasks keep working without internet, which ones need a connection, and what to do instead. It also covers what to check if you use Multiple Register Sync (MRS).

What Keeps Working When the Internet Is Down

Take Orders and Cash Payments

Your POS keeps selling without internet: you can still take orders, accept cash and print receipts, and every sale is saved on the register and syncs to StoreHub by itself once the connection returns.

View Bills and Open Orders

Bills already completed on a register stay visible offline in 'Transactions' under the 'Register' tab, and open orders saved on that register can still be opened and paid, because both are stored on the device itself.

Print Receipts on USB and Bluetooth Printers

USB and Bluetooth printers connect straight to your POS device, so they keep printing receipts while the internet is down. To set up a printer, see How to Set Up Your StoreHub Printer.

What Needs the Internet, and What to Do Instead

Online Orders

While your POS is offline, it cannot receive or sync incoming online orders.

Card Payments on the StoreHub Pay Terminal

The StoreHub Pay card terminal has no offline mode.

If a card payment does not complete while your connection is down, do not charge the customer again until the terminal shows the result. If the customer was not charged, take cash or another payment method instead. To check the result on the terminal, follow How to Make a Payment with the StoreHub Pay Terminal.

Customers and Cashback

Adding a customer to a sale needs a connection, and without one the POS shows 'No Internet Connection', so cashback cannot be redeemed on a sale made offline.

Stock and New Products

Checking stock and adding products from the POS need the internet.

If you turned off 'Allow Sales When Product Quantity is 0 or Less', an offline register cannot check stock and stops the sale, so reconnect or have a manager tap 'Temporarily Allow Selling' and enter their PIN. For all the options, see How to Manage Products and Orders on POS.

Connect at Least Once Every 30 Days

A POS that stays offline for too long locks with the message 'You Have Not Connected Your POS to the Internet For 30 days'. To unlock it, make sure your StoreHub subscription is active and your POS is connected to the internet, then tap 'UNLOCK'.

If You Use Multiple Register Sync (MRS)

With Multiple Register Sync, your registers sync orders through your 'Local Server' over your store's local network. Keep your 'Local Server' switched on with the StoreHub POS app open, and keep every register on the same network.

If a Client Register shows a yellow or orange dot, it has lost its connection to the 'Local Server', and orders might not be syncing correctly. To fix sync problems, follow How to Manage and Troubleshoot Multiple Register Sync (MRS).

On a Client Register, cancelling or refunding an order needs an internet connection.
