[PH] BIR: How to Perform Tax and Product Settings

Guidelines for configuring tax and product settings associated with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)

Important Notes

  • This feature is only compatible with

    • Android version: 1.37.1 or above

    • iOS: 1.12.1 or above


Set Up Zero Rated Tax Code

To start, configure a new tax code in the BackOffice to enable its application to a specific product later.

1. To set up the VAT, go to Settings, look for Tax, and click on Add Tax Code.

2. Key in the Tax Code Name and insert the Tax Rate as 0% and hit Save.


Set Up Tax Exemption

To start, configure a new tax code in the BackOffice to enable its application to a specific product later.

1. Go to Settings, look for Tax, and click on Add Tax Code.

2. Key in the Tax Code Name and insert the Tax Rate as 0%; then tick the VAT Exemption and hit Save.


Set a Product as Tax Exempted or Zero Rated

Not sure how to add a product? Head over to this article for more information.

Certain products such as books and donations are exempted from VAT. Please check with your BIR if you’re not sure whether your product(s) are taxable, tax exempted or zero-rated.

Notes: The sales of products with tax code where "VAT exemption" is enabled will be included in the "VAT Exempted Sales" category in the Z-reading, sales of product with 0% tax but not tax exempted will be included in the “Zero Rated Sales” category in the Z-reading

1. On the Product Page, select the correct Tax code created in the previous step.

2. Click on Save. Sync once on POS register to apply this change on POS.

3. After the successful application of the VAT Exemption to the product, consumers will not incur any tax charges.


BIR Discounts

  • StoreHub POS support discounts mandated by BIR Philippines.

  • The discount mechanism is different depending on your store setup.

  • You may select Retail / F&B when you enable BIR on Edit Store page.

Categories

Retail

Senior Citizens/Persons with Disability (SC/PWD)

  • 5% discount without VAT exemption

  • Total purchase amount of more than PHP 1,300, with at least 4 eligible items added to the cart.

  • Maximum discount that can be availed is PHP 65

  • Each person can enjoy discount once a week

  • Full bill discount 20%, with VAT exemption

Medal of Valor

  • Full bill discount 20%, with VAT inclusive

  • Full bill discount 20%, with VAT inclusive

National Athletes

  • Full bill discount 20%, with VAT inclusive

  • Full bill discount 20%, with VAT inclusive

Diplomats

  • VAT Exemption

  • VAT Exemption

Solo Parent

  • 10% discount with selected Products and VAT Exemption


[Retail only] Set products to be eligible for SC/PWD or Solo Parent Discount

Assigning Special Discounts for eligible Retail products under Senior Citizens and Persons with Disability, categories is easy in the BackOffice.

The setting is also available on the Add/Edit Product’ page, scroll down to the BIR section; check the boxes if the product meets the requirements of the discount.

Notes:

  • - This discount type only applies to Retail Services.

  • If the products are tagged or categorized, you can first filter to view products with tag or category, then bulk edits the Special Discount settings.

  • Set and Remove Special Discount features cannot be done for child products as they will inherit their parent product's setting by default.
