Monitor Core Metrics
Total Reviews
This is the cumulative number of reviews your business has received as of the end date of your selected period.
Click any data point on the chart. It will filter the review list- displaying reviews from that specific date.
The chart breaks down reviews into 3 categories, defined by a combination of their star rating and AI sentiment rating:
Positive: Any review with a 4-5 star rating.
Neutral: Any review with a 3-star rating.
Negative: Any review with a 1-2 star rating.
Avg. Star Rating
This shows your business's overall average star rating as of the end date.
Click on the bar chart. It displays the percentage and total volume of reviews for each star rating from 1 to 5.
Nearby Competitor Ranking
This list shows you the top-ranked competitors within a 1km radius of your selected store.
Click on the icon next to competitor's name- a separate tab will open their Google Maps page.
Note: The Nearby Competitor Ranking only calculates and displays your rank when you have a single store selected in the global location filter. If "All Locations" is selected, this metric will show "N/A".
FAQ
1. How is the "Nearby Competitor Ranking" calculated?
Google ranks nearby businesses (within 1km) based on popularity using the Google's Place Nearby API. Only shows when a single store is selected. “All Locations” returns “N/A”.
Search Criteria: It searches for businesses that share the same primary type as your store (e.g., "Restaurant").
Ranking Preference: The results are ranked by popularity, which is Google's metric for prominence.
Search Radius: The search is limited to a 1km radius from your store's location.
Result Limit: The dashboard will display the top 10 most popular competitors found.
2. Why can't I see a historical chart or trend for my "Nearby Competitor Ranking"?
This is by design and is a mandatory requirement for using Google's services. The Google Maps APIs Terms of Service strictly prohibit storing or analyzing historical place data, such as competitor rankings, to create trend charts.
To comply with this policy, this metric shows your current position, is not affected by the date range selector, and cannot be tracked over time.
3. Can I manually add competitors to the tracking list?
No. The list is automatically generated based on Google’s 1km search rules.
If you need manual tracking, please request the feature via your account manager.
4. Do "Positive," "Neutral," and "Negative" mean the same thing everywhere in the dashboard?
The labels adapt to the context:
Daily filtering: Helps you find priority reviews based on stars/sentiment
Trends chart: Based on star rating only, ignoring review sentiment.
Topic analysis: Based on sentiment only, ignoring star rating
See How to Manage and Reply to Reviews for more details.
5. Why can't I see any ranking or competitor data even after selecting a single location?
This usually happens when your store's Google Business Profile has a place type that Google does not support for Nearby Competitor Ranking.
For example, if the store's primary type is something generic like “point_of_interest”, Google will not return competitor results for that type.
Because the Google API only ranks supported place types, the dashboard cannot display any data-even if the store is correctly selected.
6. Why does the competitor list load, but my “Nearby Competitor Ranking” still shows N/A?
This occurs when your store does not appear in the top 10 results within Google’s popularity ranking for your area.
Google only returns ranking data for the top 10 most popular businesses within a 1km radius.
If your store falls outside the top 10, the metric will display N/A, even though the competitor list itself is visible.
This is expected behavior and follows Google’s data-return rules.
