Who is this for?
StoreHub merchants using Android or iPad POS devices who need to configure or troubleshoot their network connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) for stable POS and printer operations.
Overview
This guide explains how to set up and manage your network connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) as the default for your Android or iPad POS device. A stable network is essential for your StoreHub POS system and connected printers to work correctly.
Before You Begin
StoreHub POS device (Android or iPad) powered on.
Access to your POS device's 'Settings'.
For Ethernet: A LAN cable connected to your Android Register and router.
For Wi-Fi: Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
Step-by-Step Guide
Set Up Ethernet as Default (Android POS Only)
For Android Registers, using an Ethernet (LAN cable) connection is recommended for better network stability.
1. On your Android POS device, go to 'Settings'.
2. Tap 'Network'.
3. Tap 'Ethernet'.
Note:
Wi-Fi and Ethernet cannot be used at the same time. If you switch to Ethernet, ensure your Wi-Fi is turned off or disconnected.
Set Up Wi-Fi as Default (Android & iPad POS)
This section explains how to connect your POS device to a Wi-Fi network and set it as the default.
1. On your POS device (Android or iPad), go to 'Settings'.
2. Tap 'Network'.
3. Select the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to and enter the password if prompted.
4. Once connected to your chosen Wi-Fi network, tap 'Set As Default WiFi'.
Important: All Devices Must Connect to the StoreHub Router
If your store uses both an ISP router (the one from your internet provider) and a StoreHub router, your POS, printers, and other StoreHub devices must all connect to the StoreHub router - not directly to the ISP router.
When devices are split between two routers, they end up on different networks and cannot see each other. This is the most common reason a POS suddenly stops being able to print.
Quick check - every network-dependent StoreHub device should be on the StoreHub router:
POS device - connected via Ethernet to the StoreHub router, or via StoreHub Wi-Fi
Printers - connected via LAN cable to the StoreHub router
KDS (Kitchen Display System) - connected to the StoreHub router
NCS (Number Calling System) - connected to the StoreHub router
Devices that do NOT use the network:
Cash drawers - connect directly to your printer or POS via RJ11 cable. No network connection needed.
Barcode scanners - connect directly to your POS via USB cable. No network connection needed.
If you find a device connected to the ISP router by mistake, disconnect it and reconnect it to the StoreHub router (either through StoreHub Wi-Fi, or with a LAN cable plugged into the StoreHub router).
What to Do When You Replace Your ISP Router
If your internet service provider replaces your modem or router (or you switch providers), your POS and printers may stop working until you rewire and reconnect. Follow these steps:
1. Plug a LAN cable from the new ISP router's LAN port into your StoreHub router's WAN port (the port labelled 'WAN' or 'Internet').
2. Power on the new ISP router. Wait 1–2 minutes until the internet light is steady.
3. Power-cycle the StoreHub router - unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
4. Wait 1–2 minutes for the StoreHub router to come back online.
5. Reconnect all StoreHub devices (POS, printers, KDS, NCS) to the StoreHub router. Devices that were on Wi-Fi may need to reconnect to the StoreHub Wi-Fi network.
6. Perform a factory reset on each printer to clear its old network settings - see 'Printer Factory Reset by Model' below.
7. In the StoreHub POS app, use the 'Search Printer' option to discover each printer's new IP address. The printer is ready to use once it appears in the list.
Note:
If you only see one router in your store (combined modem/router from your internet provider) and no separate StoreHub router, skip Step 1 and Step 3 — just reconnect your devices to the new ISP router's Wi-Fi or LAN.
Reconnecting After a Router or Wi-Fi Change
If you have replaced your 'Internet Modem' or 'Router', your printer will likely stop working because its 'IP Address' has changed.
1. Perform a 'Factory Reset' on your printer to clear old network settings.
2. Connect the 'LAN Cable' from your printer to the new router.
3. Follow the 'Search Printer' steps in the POS app to discover the printer's new 'IP Address'.
Printer Factory Reset by Model
The button combination for a factory reset depends on your printer model:
XPrinter LAN models — press and hold the 'Feed' button while powering on the printer. Hold until the printer makes a sound, then release.
Star TSP models — press and hold the 'Feed' + 'Power' buttons together while turning on the printer. Release when you hear the printer beep.
For other printer models, refer to the printer's user manual or contact StoreHub Support.
Troubleshooting Network Connection Errors
Ethernet Connection Errors (Android Only)
You see an error banner indicating a network conflict when trying to use Ethernet.
Issue | Solution |
Error 1: "Switch to WiFi without disconnecting from Ethernet."
|
|
Error 2: "Intend to use Ethernet but WiFi is detected."
|
|
Wi-Fi Connection Errors (Android & iPad)
You see an error message if the Wi-Fi network changes or is disconnected.
Issue | Solution |
Error: "Default Network Changed" or similar prompt.

'IP Address' keeps changing automatically. | This happens when 'DHCP' is enabled. To fix this, you need to set a 'Static IP' via the printer's web configuration page so the address remains 'Fixed' even after a restart. |
My POS works but my printer doesn't print after we got a new ISP router. | The printer's IP address has changed because the network topology shifted. Follow the steps in 'What to Do When You Replace Your ISP Router' above — factory reset the printer using the correct button combination for your model, then re-search it from the StoreHub POS app. |
Printing was fine, then suddenly stopped. The POS shows the printer is "not found." | This usually means the printer is on a different network than the POS. Check the 'Important: All Devices Must Connect to the StoreHub Router' section above — if your printer is plugged into the ISP router instead of the StoreHub router, move it. If both are on the StoreHub router, factory reset the printer and re-search. |
FAQs
1. Can I use both Ethernet and Wi-Fi at the same time on my Android Register?
No, you cannot use both Ethernet and Wi-Fi simultaneously on an Android Register. You must choose one as your primary connection.
2. Why is a stable network connection important for my POS and printer?
A stable network ensures that your POS device can communicate reliably with the StoreHub system (for sales, inventory, and reports) and with your connected printers (for receipts and kitchen dockets). Without it, you may experience delays, errors, or system outages.
3. What should I do if my Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting?
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router and your POS device. Ensure your POS device is within good range of the router. If problems persist, contact your internet service provider or StoreHub Support for further assistance.
4. My internet provider gave us a new router. Why are some of our devices still working but others aren't?
Devices that were connected to the StoreHub router (most of your POS gear) will usually recover after a power cycle. Devices that were connected directly to the old ISP router won't automatically reconnect — you'll need to reconnect them to the new ISP router's Wi-Fi, OR move them to the StoreHub router (recommended). See 'What to Do When You Replace Your ISP Router' above.
5. Why do my printers need to connect to the StoreHub router instead of the ISP router?
Devices on different routers are on different networks and can't talk to each other. The StoreHub router keeps all your StoreHub equipment on one network, so the POS can find and send print jobs to every printer. If you mix routers, printing stops working even though the internet looks fine.
