[MY] How to Understand StoreHub Transaction Fees and Taxation

Who Is This For?

Malaysia merchants who use StoreHub online order channels and want to understand how StoreHub transaction fees relate to SST, how fees are calculated on payouts, and how that compares with other platforms.

Overview

This article explains whether StoreHub transaction fees follow Malaysian tax rules, whether the fee is taxable, and how StoreHub calculates commission on tax-inclusive order amounts. It includes side-by-side examples so you can compare StoreHub with platforms that quote tax-exclusive commission plus SST.

Before You Begin

  • Your store operates in Malaysia.

  • You receive online orders through StoreHub channels such as Beep Delivery or Webstore where transaction fees apply.

  • You understand that transaction fee rates in your agreement may differ from the 30% example below. The example shows the calculation method, not your live rate.

What to Know About Transaction Fees and Taxation

Does StoreHub Transaction Fee Calculation Violate Malaysian Tax Regulations?

1. Malaysia does not publish a specific regulation on how a platform must calculate a generic transaction fee percentage.

2. The transaction fee is a commercial agreement between StoreHub and your business.

3. Malaysian tax regulation does not treat transaction fees like price-controlled goods. Regulated items such as rice or face masks during Movement Control Order periods followed different rules.

Is the StoreHub Transaction Fee Taxable?

1. StoreHub transaction fees are taxable under Malaysia SST rules.

2. The fee StoreHub charges you is tax-inclusive. There are no extra SST line items added on top of the quoted transaction fee in the StoreHub calculation described in this article.

3. You can obtain tax invoices for StoreHub charges through BackOffice where the feature is available. See here. If you cannot find an invoice in BackOffice, contact StoreHub Support to request a copy.

How Other Platforms May Quote Fees Differently

1. Some delivery platforms calculate commission on the tax-exclusive product amount.

2. Their quoted transaction fee is often not tax-inclusive.

3. A low headline percentage plus separate SST on commission can surprise merchants who expected one all-in number. Compare final payout impact, not only the headline rate.

How Fees Are Calculated (Example)

The examples below use a 30% commission on product revenue only. Delivery or shipping fees are excluded from the commission base. Your live rate may differ.

Example: Tax-Exclusive Commission Plus SST (Other Platform Style)

Assume product revenue is RM 13 tax-inclusive and SST on the product is 8%.

1. Product revenue (tax inclusive): RM 13.00

2. Product revenue (8% SST, tax exclusive): RM 12.03

3. Commission: RM 12.03 x 30% = RM 3.60

4. SST on commission: RM 3.60 x 8% = RM 0.29

5. Total charges: RM 3.89

Example: StoreHub Tax-Inclusive Commission

Using the same RM 13 tax-inclusive product revenue and 30% rate:

1. Commission: RM 13.00 x 30% = RM 3.90

2. StoreHub does not add a separate SST line on top of this commission in the calculation described here.

3. Both example styles in this article can arrive at a similar final charge to your payout even though the fee is quoted differently.

Note:

  • Transaction fees are not charged on delivery fees. Commission applies to the food or product order amount according to your channel rules.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Payout fee looks higher than the headline rate

Check whether you are comparing tax-inclusive StoreHub fees with a tax-exclusive quote from another platform. Review the payout CSV for gateway fees and StoreHub transaction fees separately.

Cannot find a tax invoice in BackOffice

Use this article. Contact Support with the payout ID if the period is missing.

Commission seems to include delivery

Transaction fees apply to the product or food order amount, not delivery fees, per StoreHub fee rules described in this article.

SST on menu items looks wrong after a rate change

Update tax codes and product prices, then resync channels. Confirm current SST guidance with your accountant.

FAQs

1. Are StoreHub transaction fees regulated like SST on rice or controlled goods?

No. The fee is a platform agreement. SST still applies to the fee itself, but the percentage calculation is not a separate Malaysian price-control rule.

2. Does StoreHub charge SST on top of the transaction fee?

In the calculation described here, the StoreHub transaction fee is quoted tax-inclusive without an extra SST line added on top.

3. Why do two platforms with the same 30% rate show different invoices?

One may calculate on tax-exclusive product revenue and add SST on commission. StoreHub uses tax-inclusive product revenue for the example commission line.

4. Where do I see fees before money reaches my bank?

Refer to this article and review each payout breakdown.

5. Is this article about customer e-Invoices for sales?

No. This article is about StoreHub charges to you. For customer e-Invoice compliance, see the MY E-Invoice collection.
