Who Is This For?
Merchants who want to give customers a member number or code, number their members in order, or make sure no two customers share the same Member ID.
Overview
This article explains what a Member ID is and who sets it, how to add or change one in BackOffice and on the POS Register, how to fill in Member IDs for many customers at once, and how to avoid giving two customers the same Member ID.
What a Member ID Is and Who Sets It
'Member ID' is an optional free-text field on each customer's profile, so you can save any member number or code your store uses.
StoreHub's own number for each customer is the 'Customer Id', a long code it creates automatically that is not a running number and appears only in a file you download with 'Export to CSV'.
StoreHub does not give out Member IDs automatically or in the order customers join, so if you want running numbers, type the next number into 'Member ID' yourself as each customer joins.
Step-by-Step Guide
Add or Change a Member ID in BackOffice
In your BackOffice, go to 'Customers'.
Search for and select the customer.
Click the 'Edit' icon.
Type the number or code in 'Member ID'.
Click 'Save'.
Add a Member ID on the POS Register
On the POS Register, your cashier can fill the 'ID' field on the 'New Customer' or 'Update Customer' screen by typing or by scanning a barcode, and it saves as that customer's Member ID.
A scan fills the 'ID' field only while that field is selected, so tap the 'ID' field before you scan the barcode.
Add Member IDs for Many Customers at Once
To fill Member IDs for many existing customers at once, download your list with 'Export to CSV', fill the 'Member Id' column and upload the file with 'Import CSV', keeping each row's 'Customer Id' as it is.
BackOffice finds the customer for each row by its 'Customer Id' or phone number, never by its Member ID.
Note: When you import a row with its 'Customer Id', a blank 'Member Id' cell clears the Member ID saved on that customer, so do not empty a cell unless you want to remove that Member ID.
For the full import steps, see How to Import and Export Customer Data.
Members You Migrate from Another Loyalty System
'Migrate Member Info' has no Member ID column, so new members you bring over from another loyalty system arrive without one.
If a member's mobile number already belongs to one of your customers, that customer keeps the Member ID they already have.
To give migrated members a Member ID, follow Add Member IDs for Many Customers at Once after the migration finishes.
To learn how to migrate your members, see How to Import Your Existing Loyalty Data.
Avoid Duplicate Member IDs
When StoreHub checks for a duplicate customer, it looks at the mobile number, never the Member ID.
This means two customers can end up with the same Member ID.
Before you give out a Member ID, search for it in the 'Customers' search box, which takes 'Phone, name, email or Member ID', to see whether another customer already has it.
