How to Set Up the AMS1 Terminal and Docking Station

Who is this for?

StoreHub merchants who have just received their AMS1 terminal and need to get it ready to take card payments.

Overview

Your AMS1 terminal arrives pre-configured by StoreHub — you do not need to set up any payment account on the device itself. This article walks you through what to do on delivery day.

If you have not yet read the overview of how StoreHub Pay works, see 'How StoreHub Pay and the AMS1 Terminal Work' first.

Before You Begin

  • Your StoreHub POS app is updated to version 1.112 or later. Check this on your POS by going to 'Settings', then 'About'. Update from the Play Store or App Store if your version is older.

  • You know your store WiFi name and password.

  • The 'StoreHub Pay' payment option is already set up in your BackOffice. You can only set 1 store at a time but select multiple registers.

  • You have the AMS1 terminal, dock, power adapter, and USB charging cable from the box.

Step-by-Step Guide

Unbox and Power On the Terminal

1. Take the AMS1 terminal and the dock out of the box.

2. Press and hold the power button on the side of the terminal until the screen lights up.

3. Wait for the terminal to finish booting. It will land on the StoreHub Pay idle screen when it is ready.

Note: If the battery is flat and the terminal will not power on, place it on the dock first (see the dock setup section below) and let it charge for a few minutes before trying again.

Connect the Terminal to Your Store WiFi

The terminal can connect to the internet through your store WiFi or through its built-in 4G eSIM. WiFi is faster and more reliable, so connect to WiFi as the primary network. The eSIM acts as an automatic fallback if WiFi goes down.

1. On the terminal idle screen, tap the gear icon to open 'Settings'.

2. When prompted, enter the settings passcode 8888.

3. Tap 'WiFi'.

4. Select your store WiFi network from the list.

5. Enter the WiFi password and tap 'Connect'.

6. Wait for the WiFi icon to appear at the top of the screen, then tap the back arrow to return to the idle screen.

Notes:

  • If your store WiFi uses a captive portal (a sign-in page that opens in a browser), the terminal cannot connect to it. Use a WiFi network without a captive portal.

  • If your store WiFi is unavailable later, the terminal will automatically switch to 4G using the built-in eSIM. You do not need to do anything.

Set Up the Docking Station

The dock holds the terminal upright and keeps it charged between transactions. You can power the dock in two ways depending on your POS register.

If your POS is an Android device (such as Sunmi or iMin)

You can power the dock directly from your POS terminal. This avoids using a separate wall socket.

1. Plug the USB-C end of the included cable into the back of the dock.

2. Plug the USB-A end of the cable into a free USB port on your Android POS.

3. Place the AMS1 terminal onto the dock. The charging contacts on the bottom of the terminal should line up with the contacts on the dock.

Note: Push up the latch at the back of the dock to release the AMS1 terminal.

4. Check that the battery icon on the AMS1 screen shows it is charging.

Note: If the battery icon does not show charging, try a different USB port on your POS. Some USB ports do not deliver enough power to charge the dock.

If your POS is an iPad or you prefer a wall socket

1. Plug the included power adapter into the back of the dock.

2. Plug the adapter into a wall socket.

3. Place the AMS1 terminal onto the dock.

4. Check that the battery icon on the AMS1 screen shows it is charging.

Sync Your POS Register

The terminal is already linked to your store on the StoreHub side, but your POS register needs a one-time sync to pull down the StoreHub Pay payment option.

1. Open the StoreHub POS app on the register that will use this terminal.

2. Tap the menu icon, then tap 'Sync'.

3. Wait for the sync to complete.

4. Start a test order and proceed to the payment screen. 'StoreHub Pay' (or any name your account has set for it) should now appear as a payment option.

Note: If 'StoreHub Pay' does not appear after sync, see the Troubleshooting section below.

Run a Test Transaction

Before you start serving customers, test the terminal end-to-end with a small amount.

1. On your POS, create a test order - for example, RM 1.00.

2. Tap 'Charge', then select 'StoreHub Pay'.

3. Wait for the AMS1 terminal to display the amount and the message 'Tap, insert, or swipe card'.

4. Tap a card on the terminal.

5. Confirm the result:

  • The terminal shows 'Approved'.

  • The POS shows 'Approved'.

  • A receipt prints from your POS receipt printer.

6. Cancel the test transaction from the StoreHub POS to refund the test amount. Go to the 'Transactions' screen, find the test order, tap 'Cancel Transaction', and confirm.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Solution

Terminal does not power on

Place it on the dock and let it charge for at least 10 minutes, then try the power button again.

Terminal stuck on the boot screen

Hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a restart.

WiFi password is rejected

Double-check the password. If the network uses a captive portal sign-in page, use a different network — captive portals are not supported.

'StoreHub Pay' does not appear as a payment option after sync

In your BackOffice, go to 'Settings', then 'Payment Methods'. Open the StoreHub Pay payment option and confirm your register is ticked under 'Available on registers'. Save, then tap 'Sync' on the POS again.

Battery icon does not show charging on the dock

Reseat the terminal so the contacts on the bottom line up with the dock. If you are powering the dock from an Android POS, try a different USB port.

POS app version is below 1.112

Update the StoreHub POS app from the Play Store or App Store before continuing.

FAQs

1. Do I need to set up a payment account on the terminal?

No. The terminal is fully configured by StoreHub before it is shipped to you. You only need to connect it to WiFi and sync your POS.

2. Can I use the same terminal on more than one POS register?

Yes. See 'How to Share One AMS1 Terminal Across Multiple POS Registers' for the setup and the cashier workflow.

3. Do I need to charge the terminal overnight?

No. As long as the terminal sits on the dock between transactions, it stays charged through the day.

4. What if my POS does not have a free USB port for the dock?

Use the included power adapter and plug the dock into a wall socket instead.

5. How do I move the terminal to a different store?

Contact StoreHub Support before moving the terminal. The terminal is linked to your store in BackOffice and may need to be re-assigned.
