How to Understand Your Dashboard Sales Comparisons

Updated this week

Who is this for?

StoreHub merchants who use the BackOffice dashboard and want to know how sales for "Today", "This Week", and "This Month" are compared so they can read their performance correctly.

Overview

Your BackOffice dashboard shows sales comparisons for Today, This Week, and This Month. The figures are now compared like-for-like: each period is compared to the same length of time in the previous period, up to the current time. This article explains how each comparison is calculated and why this gives you a clearer view of your performance.

Before You Begin

  • You are logged in to BackOffice.

  • You have sales data so that comparisons can be shown (Today, This Week, This Month).

Step-by-Step Guide

How Your Dashboard Sales Comparisons Work

Sales periods are compared like-for-like. That means today’s sales up to the current time are compared with yesterday’s sales up to the exact same time, not the full previous day. The same idea applies to This Week and This Month. This gives you a fairer and more accurate view of your performance.

Understand "Today" comparisons

  • Current period: Sales from today (from midnight 00:00 to the current time).

  • Compared against: Sales from yesterday (from midnight 00:00 to the exact same time as now).

Example:

  • If it is 2:00 PM now, today’s sales from 00:00 to 2:00 PM are compared with yesterday’s sales from 00:00 to 2:00 PM.

Understand "This Week" comparisons

  • Current period: Sales from the start of this week (Sunday at midnight 00:00) up to the current day and time.

  • Compared against: Sales from last week (Sunday at midnight 00:00 up to the same day and time as now).

Example:

  • If it is Tuesday 3:00 PM now, this week’s sales (Sunday 00:00 to Tuesday 3:00 PM) are compared with last week’s sales (Sunday 00:00 to Tuesday 3:00 PM of the previous week).

Understand "This Month" comparisons

  • Current period: Sales from the 1st of this month (at midnight 00:00) up to the current date and time.

  • Compared against: Sales from the 1st of last month (at midnight 00:00) up to the same date and time in that month.

Example:

  • If it is May 10th at 11:00 AM, sales from May 1st to May 10th at 11:00 AM are compared with sales from April 1st to April 10th at 11:00 AM.

Why this comparison method helps you

  • You get a true side-by-side comparison of the same length of time.

  • You can see how your business is performing right now compared to the same point in the previous period.

  • You can use this clearer information to guide your business choices.

Troubleshooting

Solution

I do not see sales comparisons on my dashboard

Make sure you have sales in both the current and previous period. New accounts or stores with no past data may show limited or no comparisons.

The numbers look different from what I expect

Comparisons are like-for-like up to the current time. Check the date and time; you are comparing the same time window in the previous period.

I want to see a different time range

Use the Today, This Week, and This Month sections as provided. For custom date ranges or detailed reports, use the Reports or Export options in BackOffice.

FAQs

1. Why is "Today" compared to yesterday up to the same time?

So the comparison is fair. If you compare today’s partial day to yesterday’s full day, the numbers are misleading. Same time to same time gives an accurate trend.

2. What time does "This Week" start?

The week starts on Sunday at midnight (00:00).

3. Can I change how the comparison is calculated?

The dashboard uses the like-for-like method described above. You cannot change the calculation; it is set to give you a consistent and accurate view.

4. Why do my comparison numbers change during the day?

Because the "current" period grows as time passes (e.g. today from 00:00 to now). The previous period is always up to the same time, so the comparison stays like-for-like.
